PROGROUP feasibility study
The aim of this study was to see whether a new weight management programme (called PROGROUP) is acceptable to people, and also to see whether it is possible to run a trial of the new programme. To achieve this, half the study participants were offered the usual NHS care and half were offered PROGROUP. Participants completed questionnaires and attended their local weight management clinic in Llandough, Coventry or Taunton.
Nearly 100 people took part. If you were a participant, thank you so much for your contribution.
Was the PROGROUP programme acceptable to people?
Yes. Overall, participants liked the PROGROUP programme. Most people were satisfied with the sessions that they attended.
Were the appointments and questionnaires used in the study acceptable to people?
Yes. Overall, participants completed the online questionnaires. Those who took part in an interview after the study had finished told us they didn't mind doing the questionnaires. We found that certain parts of the questionnaire were left blank, and this was a very helpful indicator to us that improvements to the questionnaire were needed.
Is it possible and practical to run a larger study?
Yes. A large study of PROGROUP compared to current NHS weight management programmes is underway.
These are the main findings. We will add more details about the study results later this year. This will coincide with the publication of the results in a scientific journal.
